Sabbath

Here we go, this is the week before we load the truck and move to Miami. It will be a busy week, an exhausting week, but also an exciting week. I thought I would write a short posts during the week leading up to the move and on our way to Miami. So, to begin this week I will start with a remarkably interesting type of day in my opinion when you think of a busy week. A day of rest.

A day of rest in a society where we are always on the go. A wise leader in my life has pointed me specifically to the importance to discipline ourselves to rest and take a sabbath day. Something Megan has also been saying for quite awhile I will add. Note to self-listen to my wise wife! My thought is how can I take a day to rest when there is so much I need to get done? There is always something that needs done! Then I was reminded, and I must keep reminding myself that it is a command from God. We must discipline ourselves to rest. This is not a day where we just sit on the couch and watch movies all day but, rather a day of rest that we keep our attention directed to the Lord. I often find it hard to stop but, why is that? It is the fourth commandment that God gave Moses in Exodus 20 to remember the sabbat and keep it holy unto the Lord. There is no mention to what day of the week this sabbath must be but, it says complete your work in 6 days and rest 1 day. Work six, rest one. Work six, rest one. This also a reflection of God when He created everything. God in Genesis 2:1-3 it says, Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So, God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. So, we remember the sabbath day and, we keep it holy by keeping our focus and attention to God in a more concentrated way. God created all things and then He rested on the seventh day and made it holy. So, what did we do as a family today as we begin a busy week of packing, disassembling, loading, driving, and many other things? Today we rested as God has commanded us all to do.
